We finished Book 1 in grammar class today and will be moving on to Book 2 tomorrow. All the instruction is review for me, since I've covered the subject matter before, but being able to practice speaking and listening to Spanish for hours every day is really helping me. My grammar instructor this week is Gisela, who may seem to be speaking slowly to any native speakers who are listening, but she sounds like Charo to me!

La Maestra Gisela in our open-air classroom
I was moved to a new conversation group this afternoon. It's being taught by Israel, and the other participants are John and Joann (a married couple who signed up through Gavilan College), Claudia from Switzerland, and Chris from England. We discussed immigration and why people might want to emigrate from our various countries, the wet foot/dry foot policy, and the Cuban boat lift. Israel is a great teacher - I think I'm going to enjoy this group a lot!
