Wow, I can't believe I have not been able to update since the middle of April. A lot has happened since then - I had a lot of projects to do for my speech class, and a final, and in May, I got a call from the el profe to tell me that the school was no longer associated with the trip to Playa, because of liability concerns.
Since I'd planned my whole summer around this and had non-refundable tickets, I decided to come anyway. Once the school pulled out there was no supervision for the younger participants, so naturally their parents decided not to send them. Our group dwindled from 12 people ranging in age from their teens to their 60's, to five umm, "mature" people, and one of those five withdrew at the very last minute for health reasons.
Ultimately, four people carried through with the trip: Sheila, who is a nurse in training and needs to learn Spanish to communicate with her patients; John and his wife, who are both ESL teachers; and me. ¡Vamanos!
